In a single instance\, America lost 30 military service members and one U.S. military K-9– when a CH-47 Chinook helicopter\, call sign Extortion 17\, was downed in Afghanistan.

SUMMARY:31Heroes Main WOD at TakeOver Athletics Virginia Beach
DESCRIPTION:The WOD event has been held every year on the first Saturday in August and happens simultaneously across the globe\, in a local gym or other locations. The WOD is an AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) in 31 minutes to honor the 31Heroes who gave their lives on Aug. 6\, 2011. Each round of the workout consists of a 400-meter run with a sandbag\, eight barbell thrusters\, six rope climbs and 11 box jumps with a teammate. Like the warriors of our armed services\, this WOD is about working together\, sacrificing yourself for your teammate and accomplishing the mission as a unit. While one teammate completes the run\, the other uses that time to tackle a round of thrusters\, rope climbs and box jumps. When the teammate with the sandbag returns\, the two swap duties\, picking up where the other left off until the clock reaches 31 minutes. \nWhile people will gather at locations worldwide for the workout\, the Main Event WOD location is TakeOver Athletics at 1461 London Bridge Rd\, Virginia Beach\, VA 23453-3772  The event begins at 8 a.m. and heats run every 40 minutes until early afternoon. Friends\, family and spectators can attend and watch for free.

He earned the coveted titles of Honor Man in both Naval Special Warfare Lead Breacher and Naval Special Warfare Sniper School. Known for his leadership\, tireless work ethic\, and elite warrior skills\, Nicholas volunteered for deployment to Afghanistan upon his return from Yemen. Tragically\, on August 6\, 2011\, he was killed in action during combat operations in Wardak Province\, Afghanistan. \nNicholas’s legacy is one of honor\, integrity\, and unwavering devotion to his family\, faith\, and country. He was awarded the Army Achievement Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal\, recognizing his exceptional service and commitment. \nBy participating in this event\, you are not only remembering a true American hero but also contributing to a cause that provides vital support to the families of fallen warriors. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER TODAY! \nThe 31Heroes Workout of the Day (WOD) was specifically designed to remember the fallen heroes of August 6\, 2011 and to honor their legacy of sacrifice. The 31Heroes WOD happens simultaneously across the globe\, in a local gym or a location. \nThe main event takes place at New Realm Brewing in Virginia Beach\, VA on August 3\, 2024. The WOD is AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) in 31 minutes to honor the 31Heroes who gave their lives on August 6\, 2011. \nThe workout consists of rope climbs\, box jumps and thrusters with a teammate. While one teammate runs with a sandbag for 400 meters\, the other is performing the workout. When the one with the sandbag returns\, you switch off and take up where your teammate left off until you reach 31 minutes. \n \nJacob Spehar\, brother of Nic Spehar\, talks about what the 31Heroes WOD means to him.

Our goal is to remember those lost in the events of Extortion 17 and to raise funds to support them. \nWe are working out and fundraising in memory of Nicholas P. Spehar \nSpehar\, SO2 Nicholas Patrick Naval Special Warfare SEAL TEAM FIVE Special Operator Second Class Nicholas Patrick Spehar was born in Minneapolis\, Minnesota on October 19th\, 1986. SO2 Spehar grew up in Chisago City\, Minnesota\, entering the Navy in March of 2007. After completing Navy Boot Camp\, SO2 Spehar graduated Basic Underwater Demolition / SEAL (BUD/s) Training and SEAL Qualification Training with Class 267. \nUpon checking into SEAL Team FIVE\, SO2 Spehar deployed to the Philippines in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He earned the coveted position of Honor Man in both Naval Special Warfare Lead Breacher and Naval Special Warfare Sniper School. SO2 Spehar then deployed to Yemen in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and immediately upon his return\, volunteered for deployment to Afghanistan. \nOn August 6\, 2011\, SO2 Spehar was tragically killed in action while conducting combat operations in Wardak Province\, Afghanistan. SO2 Spehar was an exceptional United States Navy SEAL; he was a leader by example\, a tireless worker\, and an elite warrior. SO2 Spehar had previously been awarded an Army Achievement Medal and a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Nicholas led his life with dedication and integrity. He had a deep love for his family and his devotion to his parents and siblings was unparalleled. Nicholas had a deep Catholic faith and love for God.
